Karaj Collective: An improvisation on Persian folk motifs

Karaj CollectiveJoin Karaj Collective and Azadeh on Wednesday 9th March in Camden for an improvisation on Persian folk motifs.

Karaj Collective will present new compositions, improvisation and origial fusion music bringing together influences from jazz, blues, and Kurdish, Azeri, Afghani and Armenian folk music.

– Pouya Mahmoudi: Guitar
– Saleh Zarei: Bass Guitar
– Ali Nourbakhsh: Percussion

Karaj brings together three distinguished Iranian contemporary musicians all of whom have transversed musical borders and traditions to find truly original sound. Guitarist Pouya Mahmoudi has been one of Iran’s most creative, introducing traditional folk scales and melodies to blues and rock form and technique. Percussionist Ali Nourbakhsh has spent the last ten years exploring the intersections between Iranian, Western and South American rhythm, and bassist Saleh Zarei Lal Abadi’s career has taken him from metal to experimental jazz.

Don’t miss this evening of fusion, experimentation and mesmerising sound.

They’ll be joined by the wonderful Azadeh, who will open the evening.

‘Combining poetic lyricism and enveloping melodies, London born singer songwriter Azadeh, writes and sings with a voice that holds audiences captive.’

Azadeh has toured with grammy award winning Robert Cray, the legendary Jools Holland and his Rhythm and Blues Orchestra, Melanie C, the 25th anniversary tour of Deacon Blue, Tom Paxton and Status Quo. She is currently singing and touring in Faithless front man – Maxi Jazz’s new band.

‘A wonderful album. Very rewarding to listen to’ – Jools Holland
